Hilton Head Island Airport is thrilled to announce the commencement of Phase I of its Terminal Improvements Project, aimed at modernizing and enhancing the airport's facilities to meet the growing needs of passengers and the surrounding community. The project is spearheaded by the architecture firm The Wilson Group, headquartered in Charlotte, NC, and will be executed by Edison Foard. The contract, valued at $30,898,447.83, is projected to span two years and is funded through a combination of FAA Grants, SC Aeronautics Grants, State Funds secured by the local delegation and airport revenue.

    • Exterior wall Framing 100% complete
    • Exterior sheathing and liquid applied vapor barrier 100% complete
    • Interior framing 90% complete, Sheetrock installation started
    • Interior water/HVAC/electrical/ Fire suppression 80% complete
    • New domestic water and wastewater pipe installation 100% complete
    • New Temporary canopy and sidewalks at existing terminal 100% complete
    • Window frames and glass installed
    • Exterior EFIS is underway and approximately 60% complete
    • Interior Painting of exposed steel trusses is 100% complete

    IMPORTANT COORDINATING ITEMS

    • Continue re-routing passengers through construction zones
    • Approve interior graphics, light fixtures and accessories
    • Begin parking lot study and prep gate locations
    • Next big step will be to complete sheetrock installation

    NEAR-TERM LOOK-AHEAD

    • Pave two new arrival/departure lanes when canopy is complete
    • Continue roof panel installation
    • Wall insulation and interior sheetrock
    • Continue interior wiring and utility work
    • Complete temporary canopy sidewalks
