Beaufort County's Capital Projects Department has begun work on repairs to the pedestrian bridge and the addition of a new fishing pier on the Spanish Moss Trail on Battery Creek near the Technical College of the Lowcountry.

Starting next week, construction will begin work on the pier, but that work will not interfere with the public using the Spanish Moss Trail.

O’Quinn will also be bringing in dirt next week to dress up around the path and bridge. The path could be open the weekend of June 28, but no later than Monday, July 1.
The week of July 1, O’Quinn Construction will begin work on the pier. O’Quinn Construction will build the pier from the barge on site. The construction of the pier will not interfere with the public using the Spanish Moss Trail.
The pier should take one to two weeks to complete, depending on the weather.

The North Abutment is being framed and the concrete crew is also tying in the rebar cages. The concrete for the North Abutment should be poured at the end of next week. Our contractor is on schedule to have the trail back open by June 30th.

The remaining sections of the south cap will be placed Friday. The sheet pile and backfill of the North side have been installed. The new 4x12 cap members were also installed on both sides the bridge. All work appeared to be in accordance with the plans or applicable engineer-approved field modifications.

The contractor will be backfilling and start the concrete formwork on the North Abutment next week. The concrete formwork has begun on the South Abutment in preparation for the concrete pour scheduled for next week.
The City of Beaufort is doing a streetscape project on Allison Rd. Starting Monday June 3rd Allison Rd will become a one lane road and on June 16th Allison Rd will be closed completely until the city has completed their construction on Allison Rd. The City has requested that no pedestrians use Allison Rd for walking, jogging, or biking for safety. Starting Monday there will be a new detour for the Spanish Moss Trail for the safety of the community. The new detour will be from 1st Blvd to Hermitage. There are sidewalks on 1st Blvd and Battery Creek Rd that will be safe for the community to utilize while we have the detour in place.

The South Abutment has also been backfilled. Contractor started demo of the North Abutment and is installing sheet pile for the North Abutment. No work will be conducted on May 27th in observance of Memorial Day. Concrete crews will begin tying rebar cages on May 28th. The first concrete placement has been scheduled for the first week of June.
